Blue Light Blocking Glasses
Orange lenses that filter blue light
For the last 1 to 2 hours before bed
Black or transparent frame
Glasses for the last hours before bed. They filter the part of the light spectrum that keeps you alert when you would rather be winding down.
The reasoning
Blue light in the evening suppresses melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleepy. Keep it coming from a screen until bedtime and sleep tends to be shallower and mornings harder. Filtering that light lets the body start its own run-up to sleep on schedule — so sleep begins sooner, more of it is REM, and getting up is less of a fight.
When to wear them
Put them on for the last hour or two of the evening, whenever you are in front of a screen or under bright indoor light. They are not reading glasses and carry no correction.
How to use them
- Put them on at least 2 hours before you plan to sleep
- Keep them on until you turn the lights off
- They matter most in front of phones, laptops, TVs and fluorescent lighting
Size and fit
- Frame width: 143 mm
- Lens width: 52 mm
- Bridge width: 21 mm
- Lens height: 47 mm
- Temple length: 140 mm
These dimensions suit most face shapes.
Why are the lenses orange?
An orange tint blocks more blue light than a clear lens does. Less blue light in the evening means less melatonin suppression.
Can I wear them in the daytime?
You can, and some people do for long screen sessions. Because they block blue light completely, most wearers save them for the evening.
